Ottawa to Kingston - 3 ways to travel via train, bus, and car

The trip would have rated a higher review except for the numerous delays due to our train having to I booked the business class for this trip and I was not disappointed.

I was looked after very well I recently traveled to Ottawa from Kingston and took the train there and back for the first time. Traveled in the business class section This was a really nice way to go up to Ottawa. The food and drinks were good Service by the Via rail staff was excellent and everyone I came into contact with were very friendly. The train was on time. There was lots of seating space WiFi worked very well.

Liked the business class lounge to relax prior to departure. They had non-alcoholic drinks pop, juice, coffee type drinks as well as newspapers and magazines.

Comfortable seating also and a television. I don't have any complaints or suggestions for improvement. Great job Via Rail I would travel this way again and would recommend to others. Most of not all Europeans are familiar with trains, but things are quite different in Canada and in the USA I suppose. Trains are immensely long, very slow and not very comfortable. Also they do not necessarily stick to the official schedule for a good reason: So you may sit on a siding for considerable lengths of time.

And of course freight does not mind a bumpy ride, with all the consequences thereof. I took the train from Jasper to Winnipeg, and a day later from Winnipeg to Churchill and back. Jasper-Winnipeg is around 26hrs, but we got to Winnipeg 6hrs late at a. I had one of the Sleeper options: In day time it has a place to sit, a sink and a toilet with a cover, making a foot stool, at night the bed covers the toilet!

Who approved this design?? I know the trains are old, but even 50 years ago toilet habits were what they are now. So at night you go down the corridor if you have to go.

Shower also located at the end of the car When the bed is down, there is no floor space left and you get undressed sitting on the bed. I gather this cabin for TWO people is much better and keeps the toilet available at night In the dining car good food it is a train, not Maxim's of Paris, remember! There is also an observation car and a car where people did puzzles and played cards. Winnipeg has a lovely station, apparently prototype for Grand Central station in NY.

I was told back then Winnipeg was one of the 3 fastest growing cities in North America with NYC and San Francisco The trip to Churchill and back takes 40 hours and 2 nights on the train each way yes, I am a train freak. This train was shabbier than the first one and there is talk of discontinuing this line. Cabin for one about the same as on the other train, with the same stupid toilet arrangement.

Dining car altogether more modest but friendly service. You get 3 choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and you get those same 3 choices the next day, next week or next month, going North or going South. The observation car was as usual popular, people trying to spot wildlife, and we actually arrived in Churchill as scheduled. The return trip 3 days later was the same, but we arrived nearly 6 hours late in Winnipeg, now the result of some mechanical problem on the train.
