    My service advisor raved about it. So, I drove 2 hours into the desert from LA and braved degree temps! I am far from a pro driver and it was great to receive formal instruction on high speed cornering; braking; drifting on a wet skid pad, proper driving seating position, etc. I've never been able to drive my M4 all out on public roads so this was a great way to let loose using someone else's car! They gave us a different M car for each training evolution-- started in the M3 and cycled through the M2 and M4 the M School folks said the M5 and M6 didn't hold up well in the heat, so they don't use them in training.

    The instructors really encouraged us to push the limits and capabilities of these amazing cars. The driving instruction was totally eye opening for me too. There were only 3 students in the M School so they gave us extra time on all the cars and the track.

    One tip from the instructor: Two of the other student's M2s lost power steering during a hot lap exercise. I'm sure this would never happen in every day driving, but interesting to note. Having said that, the M2 was definitely the most fun to drive around the track- so nimble!

    All the cars were M-DCT; no manuals sadly. Our instructor Rob was super cool and a wealth of information. If you have the opportunity, do it! Interested in doing this as well.     Less likely to get rained on, but I wouldn't go there in the heat of summer, which is basically May thru September. But the Carolina facility can be very interesting also: The factory tour is fascinating. And the museum is kind of cool. Once you are on the track, they'll be using the same cars to teach the same concepts using the same methods so there's not much difference there.

    Bottom line, if it was equal distance, I would go to Thermal since I've already done the factory tour. I would just go in late fall, winter, or early spring.     Having said that, because people avoid going when it's hot there meant more track time and attention from the instructors. As I said, we only had 3 people in my 1 day M School including myself. They can take up to 15 people for M School and it would have sucked having to wait for everyone to cycle through the track during exercises.

    We talked about that on the drive back home. At the end of the day, I would stick with my M4. Love the adjustability with the different settings. Also, aesthetically I prefer the looks of the M4 over the M2. Both the M3 and M4 had carbon ceramics- they are amazing brakes. Zero brake fade and we were pounding the brakes all day in plus temps.

    Great for track use, but probably overkill if you never plan to track your car. I may choose the M2 if I wanted a dedicated track tool, but only if the power steering issue gets sorted out. The flickability of the car was awesome-- and it definitely felt lighter and more nimble around the track. The M4 and M3 by comparison definitely felt "bigger". But, my fellow students found it very disconcerting to feel the power steering cut out all of a sudden hitting a corner during a hot lap.
