Ford's Mustang, the quintessential pony car, is one of the oldest nameplates in the business. During its 45+ year run, the Mustang has provided.

Mustang previewed by the concept vehicle that was codenamed "S". Its platform was the D2C for the model.

The concept car concept is translated as "the idea of a car". This is a kind of prototype car, which tests people's reactions to new technologies being introduced, design solutions, etc. In its original form, prototypes are never launched into mass production.

An rpm-adjustable electronic launch-control function is standard, as is four-mode electronic stability control. The shock absorbers were mounted outside the rear structural rails and the softer springs were now located on top of the axle. Ford says both engines use liquid-filled mounts to cut noise and vibration. To improve handling and help offset the car's front-heavy weight distribution, the GTKR featured a Ford Racing strut tower brace and uniquely tuned struts, shocks, and springs.

From Concept To Reality: Ford's Mustang Coupe and Convertible | Carscoops

Without a doubt, the next-generation Mustang is a wholly mature automobile, now raised from its previous platforms to intersect with the best the world has to offer. But this is a peek at the Mustang Concept, not the production version. No, these cats are hot rodders to the core-the edges of their space are lined with their own historical icons: They create like the craft guilds of old, each man performing a specific task, but each man doing it for a common good, and this all happens at Ford Design CA Valencia, California behind doors with coded locks.

Not that the Concept has anything to do with mass production. We worked in a parallel effort with the Mustang Production Studio and with its director, Larry Erickson. We must protect and promote the Mustang heritage, and we take it very seriously.

We first visited the fastback as a warm silver body resting on jackstands patiently awaiting animation. It vibes a taut, race-bred aura through its large, well-defined wheel openings, oversize Brembo brakes, and the strong diagonal element that runs through the rear of the doors, to the window scoops and on up to the roof.

Once the hood is open, it is obvious the engine compartment emulates the hood form, with large inlets leading to and feeding the supercharger. The sole purpose is to draw attention to and supply the featured item-the massive DOHC engine. Though essentially a current Cobra intercooled supercharger motor, it relies on a recalibrated ECU, exhales through tube headers and a 3-inch exhaust system, and terminates in ballsy 4-inch tips that poke proudly through the valance panel.

The coupe is fitted with a six-speed manual, while the convertible channels torque through a five-speed automatic transmission. Though all production Mustangs for the first year at the very least will carry a solid rear axle, the Concept is fitted with an IRS design. It is no secret that the new car will be founded on a modified Lincoln LS platform.

To achieve a pure statement with the engine compartment, Hutting and company relieved it of clutter and intimidation and made it simpler and easier to understand. We are paying homage to the street rodders. The Concept makes a clean, muscular statement, it has a stripped out look. There is no fluff. Performance inspired the entire internal design as well and is evident in the billet doorsill plates, the one-piece racing seats, and four-point safety harnesses.

The design wraps the steering column and takes the traditional year-old analog meters to a new level. They have no indicator needles but rather concentric rings that perform their sweeping function by a fine system of cogs and gears. The idea was a movement that would evoke images of precision: The tiny gear wheels that propel the dial faces are visible.

To the rear, more nostalgic cues, a flat expanse under that sloping backlight where the plus-two seat notches would normally be. They were my Inglewood High School contemporaries. I really went back to my roots with the Concept to express to the individual the reason why I got into this business in the first place. At the rear of the car, Hutting reinstated the medallion-like mock fuel filler cap and set it in a central band, the cap replete with conservative red, white, and blue stripes and the now-stylized Mustang icon floating gracefully in the middle of it-an instantly recognizable Mustang trait.

On either side, three-segment taillamps border the central band. They capture sequential lighting via an LED strip. No bulbs are used. The rapidity of the sequential action signals the driver following to what extent and how quickly he must apply his own brakes in order to avoid conflict. We raised the bar and have given future Mustang designers a more contemporary benchmark to hit.
